2nd Grade Summer Reading (2016)
First choose at least TWO books from the reading list below to read over the summer. Then pick one project to do for each of the books that you have read. You may choose to do two different projects or the same for both books. These projects may be turned in any day during the first two weeks of school
- The world according to Humphrey, by Betty G. Birney
- Freckle Juice, by Judy Blume
- Night of the moon: A Muslim holiday story, by Hena Khan
- The dog that stole the football plays, by Matt Christopher
- All because of a cup of coffee, by Geronimo Stilton
Before-and-After: Students may write a brief report about what they think a book will be about — based on the book’s cover — before they actually read it. After reading the book, students write a brief explanation of the book as it actually is. This can be done on a sheet of note book paper,
Once Upon a Timeline: Students create a timeline showing a chain of important events from a book read. This assignment can be completed on a sheet of unlined paper or a poster board. The choice is yours. Make sure to include the title and author of the book.
A Letter to the Character: Students will write a letter to one of the characters of the book. The letter should include the date that the letter was written, and should be addressed in care of the book or the author. The letter should include at least two questions to the character.
